We often get asked how we get such intimate and authentic ‘poses’. For us a couple shoot is way more than just taking pretty pictures. We want to create a little adventure for our couples. We want to create an experience that is meaningful and special; one that they will never forget. So we always choose a beautiful location, suggest outfits that compliment the environment, find the best time of day for lighting, and make our couples feel comfortable. We make them laugh a lot and just have a good time with each other. Our posing techniques help ease our couples into feeling comfortable in front of the camera, so that we can create and capture those raw, honest, genuine moments. We don’t coach our couples into unnatural poses, but we will give them little prompts like “tell her a secret.” Ultimately, we want them to forget about the cameras and be caught up in their love. So our advice for other photographers is to not concentrate on poses, but rather to work on obtaining a relaxed atmosphere in which you can build a connection to your couples. Jasraj and Rajan were so caught up in their snowball fights and lovely moments at Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish that they completely forgot we were there, and at other times, we were just a glorified third wheel on their adventurous date.
We’re looking forward to photographing Jasraj and Rajan again for their Indian wedding ceremony and reception in August!
